CHAD BOLDT

I have a similar story to Sam's. Our son was born in 1976. He also had breathing and eating problems from birth. The doctors did not have a clue to what was causing the problems. They did all kinds of tests and could find nothing that would cause the problems. After three weeks in the hospital they sent our son home and told us to do the best we could. A couple of more tests were done and still nothing. I came home one night and found my wife holding Chad and he was almost completely blue. My wife was terrified. I called the hospital and they told me they would call the doctor when we got there. I explained that I wanted the doctor there when we got there. They called the doctor and he was there when we arrived. Again they found nothing. They suggested that our son be sent to the University of MN Hospital in the morning. I said I would take him to the hospital myself.

Chad was admitted to the U of MN and stayed there for about five months. The U of MN had a dentist who specialized in diagnosing special patients. It took him only three days to inform us that our son had Mobeius. I won't go into all of the details, but all of the sudden Chad was able to eat and only occasionally did food go into his lungs. He did have pneumonia a couple of times but since then he has had no trouble eating. He now eats everything in sight.

Chad has gone to special schools and is now a working adult. He works at a hotel doing housekeeping. Chad has become the worlds biggest sports fan.

I would like to tell one story that has stuck with me and will forever. One day when Chad was in High School I was explaining to a friend of mine that Chad was in several classes with normal students. Chad overheard my conversation and told me " Dad, I am a normal kid." That kind of put things in perspective.
