DARLENE

I was born with Mobius Syndrome 52 years ago.  At the time doctors did not even know what it was.
My mom tells me at one time there was a room filled with doctors poking me in the face with needles to see if I had any feeling.

Some of my other symptoms include "club Feet".  I have had six operation on them to correct them.
I have peripheral vision.  I can see mostly what is in front of me.  The left hand is very small.

I went to a regular grammar school and high school.  The kids were rather cruel to me.  Kids can be cruel in general.
I think you have to be "perfect" in order for them not to pick on you.  What is amazing is that they are not perfect themselves.

Finding a job was even harder.  During my lifetime I have had two great jobs.
In the early 70's I worked for a home study course.  I would record student's lessons by hand as they came in.  That company moved out of town.
During the late 80's I worked for an investment banker as a proofreader.  That company went out of business.
Currently I am on social security disability and living with my eighty-five year old mother.

In the early 90's I taught literacy to adult women.  It was amazing and sad too that these adult women could not read a first grade book.
I will never forget one women she told me she was so happy "because they is learnin me".

Sometimes things happened in my life that just made life easier to handle.
