CATHERINE

My name is Catherine, I am a 23 years old woman with Moebius syndrome. If i could make parents of Moebians smile or give hope to someone who has Moebius, than my story would be worth telling.

So here's my story: I was born in Quebec, Canada, nobody could tell my parents what their beautiful little girl had, they knew she had a very tiny mouth who couldn't smile, little almonds eyes who never blink or close and a little left hand who will have to go thres so much surgery. That's all my parents knew when they brought me home 2 weeks after birth. They didn't care, all they wanted was to love me and give me everything they could, A Few months after long night trying to feed me a bit, and a lot of worries an eye specialist said something about a rare disorder, she remember to have heard bout one case like that in Canada, this rare disorder was the Moebius syndrome. 2 weeks later the diagnostic was made.

I grew up in a very great environment, I was spoiled and love a lot, i even had the chance to have a little sister 2 years and a half after me! Elementary school was very good for me , a bit of teasing at the beginning but soon enought the others kids understood that it wasn't a big deal, i couldn't smile that's all! High school were a bit harder, even though i can't say it was that hard. Anyway that's the past and now we live in the present so.... I am now married with a wondefull man and we have a beautiful healthy little girl with such a beautiful smile!! I am starting in september a PH. D. in psychology and planmning to have have 2 more children right after that !

Moebius is something that you can't hide, but you can cope with it, I was and still is proud of who i am and that's helped me a lot. When you like yourself people don't have any other choices than loving you too. And if someone still doesn't like me than i always say he just have to not look at me :)

I have to go, but i would really love to share more experiences with you!
